Cushion Covers and Decorative Cushions from India: Buyer Specification Guide

Buyer guide to sourcing cushion covers and decorative cushions from India, covering fabric, print, embroidery, dimensions, inserts, closures, seams, labels, packing and quality control.

Decide whether you are buying covers or filled cushions

A cushion cover and a complete filled cushion are different products for costing, packing and specification. State whether the quote includes the insert, filling, inner liner, cover, trims and packaging. If the buyer supplies the insert, provide its finished dimensions and desired fit so the cover is developed to the correct size.

Specify fabric, pattern and decoration

  • Fibre composition, weave, fabric weight, texture and finish.
  • Print technique, repeat, placement and approved colour standards.
  • Embroidery, appliqué, quilting, tufting, piping, tassels or other embellishment with dimensions and position.
  • Front and back fabric details, including whether both sides are identical.
  • Care information and any buyer-specific performance or testing requirement.

Dimensions, fit and closure

Provide finished cover dimensions and tolerance, plus the method used to measure the product. Specify whether the dimensions are measured flat or after sewing. State the closure type—zipper, buttons, envelope or another construction—and identify zipper length, location, colour and puller details. For filled cushions, define the insert dimensions, filling type and desired loft or firmness.

Sampling and colour approval

  • Approve fabric swatches and print or embroidery strike-offs before full sample development.
  • Review the full cover for dimensions, seam quality, closure function, piping and pattern placement.
  • Check whether the insert fits without excessive tightness or sagging.
  • Assess colour and decoration on the actual finished fabric.
  • Approve the label, retail pack and carton configuration with the sample.

Quality inspection checklist

  • Fabric, composition, colour and design match the approved reference.
  • Dimensions, seam allowance and closure are correct.
  • Zippers operate smoothly and are securely attached.
  • Embroidery, piping, tassels and embellishments are secure with no loose elements.
  • No stains, holes, pulled yarns, skipped stitches or unacceptable print defects.
  • For filled cushions, insert quantity, filling distribution and pack dimensions are correct.

MOQ, pricing and packaging

Pricing depends on the cover fabric, print or embroidery, size, trims, closure, insert and packing. Custom print and embroidery may have separate minimums from finished covers. If inserts are included, confirm filling material, weight, dimensions and whether they are packed separately or inside the cover. Define the finished packed size, barcode, carton quantity and protective packaging.

Questions to ask a cushion supplier

  • Is the quotation for a cover only or a complete filled cushion?
  • What is the minimum by fabric, print, embroidery, size and colour?
  • How are zipper strength, seam quality and finished dimensions checked?
  • Can the supplier maintain pattern placement and colour consistency across a set?
  • Can the sample and approved insert specification be retained for repeat orders?
