US retailers, importers and private-label brands sourcing home textiles from India need more than a list of factories. They need product specifications that can be quoted consistently, manufacturing partners with the right processes, documented sample approvals, clear quality checkpoints and a realistic plan for export and delivery. Vanguard Sourcing provides India-based sourcing and production coordination for international buyers, with support shaped around each product brief and order scope.
This guide is for US home-textile buyers evaluating Indian suppliers for bedding, quilts, bedspreads, cushion covers, throws, curtains, towels, bath mats and selected floor-covering products.
Home textile categories US buyers can evaluate in India
India has different manufacturing clusters and specialist factories. The right supplier depends on the construction, material, finishing process, order quantity and required delivery window. Product categories worth evaluating include:
- Bedding and bed linen: sheet sets, pillowcases, duvet covers, quilts, comforters, bedspreads and coverlets.
- Decorative textiles: cushion covers, throws, blankets, table linen and coordinated soft furnishings.
- Bath textiles: bath towels, hand towels, bath sheets, bath mats and bath rugs.
- Window textiles: curtains, panels and other soft window furnishings.
- Floor coverings: selected woven, tufted, printed and other textile rug constructions.

What to include in a US home-textile RFQ
A detailed request for quotation reduces assumptions and makes supplier comparisons more useful. Send the same core specification to every shortlisted supplier and make any optional features clear.
- Product description, reference photographs, sketches and construction details.
- Fibre composition, yarn or fabric details, weave or knit construction and finish.
- Finished dimensions in inches, tolerances, weight and GSM where relevant.
- Colour standards, print or embroidery artwork, placement and acceptable variation.
- Filling composition and weight for quilts, comforters and filled products.
- Label, care instruction, hangtag, barcode, insert and retail-pack requirements.
- Size, colour and pack breakdown; initial quantity and expected reorder potential.
- Testing, inspection, packaging and destination-market requirements.
- Target ship window, named delivery point and preferred trade term.
How to assess Indian home-textile manufacturers
Do not assume that a supplier can make every type of home textile. A bedding factory may not have the right equipment for tufted bath mats; a towel manufacturer may not be the best fit for printed quilts or curtains. Match each product to the supplier’s actual machinery, process controls, finishing capability and previous production experience.
During supplier evaluation, ask for relevant product references, process details, capacity assumptions, subcontracting information, quality records and evidence for any certifications or claims that matter to your programme. Where practical, verify the operating site and the processes that will be used for your order.

Sampling, MOQ and production planning
Minimum order quantities are not identical across products or factories. Fabric or yarn minimums, dyeing and printing batches, filling materials, trims, packaging, production setup and colour assortment can all affect the MOQ. Ask suppliers to quote the MOQ for the exact construction and assortment rather than relying on a general company-level figure.
Before bulk production, approve a sample against a written specification. Record the approved material, colour, dimensions, stitching, filling, workmanship, labels and packaging. Keep dated sample comments and artwork versions so that the factory and buyer are working to the same standard.
Our Product Development and Private Label Manufacturing page outlines the development process, while Low MOQ Sourcing in India explains the factors buyers should discuss when evaluating smaller production runs.
Quality planning for bedding, towels, bath mats and rugs
Each product needs its own measurable acceptance criteria. Depending on the item, the quality plan may cover fibre composition, fabric weight, dimensions, shrinkage, colourfastness, seam or stitching quality, filling distribution, pile or tuft construction, backing, appearance, odour, packaging and performance after care or use tests.
Agree the inspection stages before production starts. These can include material review, an initial production check, in-line inspection, final inspection and loading supervision where required. Define the sampling approach, defect classifications, acceptance limits, reporting format and corrective-action process in advance.

US labelling, testing and import responsibilities
Requirements depend on the specific product, its intended use, materials, claims and applicable US rules. Before confirming bulk production, the importer should identify the requirements that apply to each SKU and agree who will arrange testing, maintain technical records, approve labels and provide import documentation.
- Confirm applicable fibre-content, care, country-of-origin and other product-labelling requirements.
- Identify product safety rules and any testing or certification that applies to the specific item.
- Check chemical, performance and restricted-substance requirements where relevant.
- Ensure product claims such as organic, recycled or sustainable are supported by appropriate evidence.
- Agree how test reports, certificates, labels and technical documents will be reviewed and retained.
Vanguard Sourcing can coordinate supplier document collection and testing follow-up within an agreed project scope. The US importer remains responsible for confirming applicable legal obligations with qualified advisers and relevant authorities.

Compare quotations on landed-cost assumptions
When comparing suppliers, make sure the quoted specifications, quantity, packing and delivery basis are equivalent. Review unit price alongside sample and development charges, packaging, inspection, freight, insurance, duties, customs clearance and destination handling. Confirm the named place or port and the responsibilities included in the selected trade term.
Keep currency, payment milestones, lead-time assumptions, quote validity and exclusions visible in your comparison. A structured RFQ helps buyers understand whether a price difference reflects a real manufacturing advantage or a difference in scope.

How Vanguard Sourcing can support a US home-textile programme
Vanguard Sourcing is an India-based sourcing and production coordination partner for international retailers, importers and brands. Depending on the agreed project scope, support can include supplier identification, RFQ coordination, sample development, supplier assessment, production follow-up, quality inspection coordination and shipment-readiness support across relevant Indian manufacturing centres.
We assess requirements product by product. Supplier availability, MOQ, pricing, lead time, certifications and manufacturing capacity must be confirmed for the specific product and order; they should not be assumed from a general capability statement.
