PRE-SHIPMENT & FINAL RANDOM INSPECTION

Pre-Shipment and Final Random Inspection in India

Check finished production against the approved standard before shipment release.

Final random inspection (FRI) or pre-shipment inspection is used to assess a production lot when goods are substantially complete and packed or ready for packing. Vanguard Sourcing helps buyers coordinate inspection briefs, factory access, sample plans, reporting and corrective-action follow-up with the appointed inspector or inspection provider.

A final random inspection is a point-in-time sample-based assessment. It does not guarantee that every unit in the lot is defect-free, and it does not replace laboratory testing or product compliance review. The buyer should approve the sampling plan and acceptance criteria before the inspection takes place.

What to include in an FRI brief

An inspection brief should identify the lot, inspection date, production status, sample method, defect definitions and what constitutes acceptance or rejection.

  • Purchase order, SKU, style, quantity, factory location and production status.
  • Approved sample, drawings, technical specification, measurements and tolerances.
  • Sampling standard, lot size, inspection level and acceptance numbers.
  • Critical, major and minor defect descriptions with examples or photos.
  • Packaging, labels, carton marks, quantity, assortment and required report content.

How inspection is coordinated

Frequently Asked Questions

Does FRI inspect every piece?

Usually not. It uses a defined sampling plan. The buyer should understand the sample size and limitations.

Can a lot pass even if defects exist?

Yes. Acceptance depends on the agreed sampling plan and defect acceptance numbers. Buyers should define critical defects carefully.

Can Vanguard issue an accredited test report?

No. Laboratory test reports must come from a competent laboratory. We can coordinate testing where included in the project scope.
